Members’ Update Wednesday 1st December

The last month has been hectic at the club.

Apart from our normal, busy daily operations there have been a number of events and activities (some planned and some not) that have been well managed by our fantastic staff and volunteers.

The Storm

The storm on the 29th October created havoc on the course with many trees and shrubs either uprooted or badly damaged. However, the course opened for play the next day due to the great work of Rod Fenton and his staff, assisted by some energetic volunteers. It is interesting to note that many Bellarine courses closed for a number of days as they worked out how to deal with the problem. Our immediate and effective response to the crisis was outstanding. Thanks to all who were able to help! The residual clean up continues.

The Music

Sassy on Sunday, 31st October was a hit. With some COVID restrictions still in place we were able to hold an outside event. The weather was kind and the afternoon was enjoyed by everyone. Look out for future music events. We are committed to holding a music afternoon on every long weekend for the entertainment of our members and visiting crowds. These events provide another sustainable income stream for the club.

The Championships

Over the last few weeks both the Ladies’ and Men’s Championships have been run and won.

A small group of ladies contested the event with Pam Treble taking out the Ladies Championship. Congratulations!

The Men’s event was hotly contested in 4 grades.

A Grade and Club Champion – Michael Havelberg. Runner up – Tim Fennell

B Grade winner – Billy Clifton. Runner up – Robert Gourlay

C Grade winner – Chris Humphrey. Runner up – Rob Henscke

D Grade winner – John Shinners. Runner up- John Giuffrida

Thanks to Peter Kleindienst for his organisation and support for the players. We have had positive feedback about the format of the event and the camaraderie that was evident.

Well done everyone!

MiClub

The membership module has been installed and the wallet and eftpos system have become fully interactive.

All aspects of the system are now operational.

The promised COVID donation of $50 to member wallets will be activated in the next few days. Also, be reminded that the $16.95 reimbursement for the MiScore App. will be made when you show the Phone App. to the bar staff.

The investment in this state of the art golf management system brings us into line with the most professional and progressive clubs and continues our commitment to improving the quality of our club presentation to members and visitors.

The Annual General Meeting

The AGM was held last Saturday (Nov. 27th).

The practice of sending the paperwork to members a few days prior to the meeting was well received. The meeting was expedited by the pre reading opportunity.

Highlights of the meeting included:

  • Delivery of reports that reflected strong growth and improvement in all areas
  • Elevation of Kelvin Pettigrove to Life Membership. His citation is attached.
  • Presentation of new, modern Constitution for in principle approval
  • Presentation of the 7 Strategic Priorities from the Strategic Plan (in final draft stages) 2022 – 2025. Copy of Priorities attached.
  • Election of the Committee

President – Tony Graham

Greens Director – Kelvin Pettigrove

Minute Secretary – Tom Buxton

General Committee – Peter McSween

One year of term remaining

Brian Heron, Al Hamblin, Peter Kleindienst, Pam Treble, Bob Merriman

Peter McSween is a new and welcome member of the committee.

While having a stable, harmonious committee is always desirable, a succession plan to support healthy turnover of committee members is being addressed in the Strategic Plan.

The subcommittee structure will allow interested members to have input into planning and decision making. More later!

The club is in an excellent position with financial stability, growing membership, high competition numbers, strong green fee and social participation and  exciting plans for ongoing development on the course and in the clubhouse.

Let us continue to move forward together, enjoying our wonderful Swan Island environment.

Good Golfing!

Tony Graham – President
