Batto’s Bash Fundraiser Ambrose 2024

The perfect nod of the pink hat to Batto’s legacy…

116 Players, Plenty of Sunshine, Loads of Laughs and even a little dance or two on the green

It was exactly the kind of day Andrew Batson imagined when he first planned this major fundraising event for the club as our Captain in May 2024. The day began early with a little drizzly rain and a keen field of teams, but it wasn’t long before the sun broke through and became almost as hot as the competition.

The course played like a dream and, whilst some team’s hopes of winning the inaugural event turned into a nightmare, most were happy to just be part of an amazing day. A huge shout-out to the gallantry of Billy Clifton, Matt Gladwin, Peter Bambra and Mark Fitzgerald who, after being named winners on the day, relinquished their pink hats (and chainsaws) once they became aware of a discrepancy in their handicaps. The crowns (and large grins) were quickly transferred to the rightful winners of Taylor Cameron, Ian Hargreaves, Kal Sheridan and Leigh Sheridan (pictured above). Congratulations!

After the success of the first Batto’s Bash Fundraiser, QGC is committed to creating a pathway for Junior “island” golfers, with the first clinics being scheduled for the summer school holidays. Stay tuned for more details about this and other exciting announcements to come soon.

A massive thank you to all the volunteers, who provided amazing support throughout the day, to the QGC crew for their tireless work in preparing for the event, to Tim Moore, PGA Pro, for his handy (free) tips on the 9th, to Richard Lewis, Paul Sfetkidis, and Paul Lappin for the auction items, and to our sponsors, without whom it would have been only half the success!
